Please suggest best way to travel from Abingdon-on-Thames to Canary Wharf, UK. Any intermediate place to stay?

Question: We are moving to UK next month from India. My husband working at Abingdon-on-Thames, in Oxfordshire and I need to work at Canary Wharf (London). Can you please guide us about the best way to travel to and fro and also the best place to reside keeping in view travel time, cost of living and schooling facilities for children. Can we think of staying at some place somewhere in between so that travel is shared as abt 75% for me and 25% for him. Pls guide me.

Answer: I live in Abingdon. It is maybe coming up 80 miles between that part of London and Abingdon. the best way to travel between the two would really be car, because to use a train would require an overground journey to London Paddington, followed by about 3 different underground trains. A good place to reside would be somewhere like Amersham, Buckinghamshire. This is about 35 miles from Abingdon (good access into Oxfordshire on the nearby M40 motorway) and about 40 miles from East London (located close to the M25). It also has a tube station and an overland train station. Another town that would serve your purpose well in the nearby town of Chesham ,any closer to London than that and you'll to be too far from Abingdon though. Living in these sorts of towns would probably give you a 1 hour commute to Abingdon and a little over an hour to East London (Canary Wharf).
